My project has a bunch of repeated core spaces on several levels. I spent some time cleaning things up in Model Editor, and I’m trying to find a way to copy the rooms to another level. I’m not seeing a way to accomplish this. Is there a method to do this - directly or as a workaround?
I see I can export lots of geometry file types, but I don’t see a way to import them back into model editor. I know I can do it in IESVE, but there’s other snapshot imports & cleanup I’ll need to do on all the floors after I get the core areas done.
This is a great feature request, and we already have a card for it with a slightly different approach. The problem with copying the rooms is that your snapshot will get out of sync with your Revit model, which is not desired, and can break other workflows like comparing changes in the next versions of the Revit model or reading the simulation results back to the Model Editor and copying back to Revit.
Our plan is to add a new command to compare and match rooms between different levels.
This command will allow you to match the selected rooms on different levels with the rooms from a base/guide level. This way, you keep the name and identifier of the original rooms but re-use the work that you have done on one level for updating the geometry of the rooms on the other levels.
@chriswmackey is currently OOO but this is on top of the list for when he will be back. We will keep you posted on our progress.
FYI there is a current (imperfect) workaround for the case that the entire story is repeated in more or less the same layout over multiple stories. Just go to the Stories table and change the multiplier of the story you have cleaned up, which is repeated. Then use the “Multipliers to Geometry” button above the table to convert the integer value of the multiplier to explicit room geometry that you can edit on the model editor canvas.
Granted, this really only works when the entire story layout is repeated (not the layout of a few rooms on the story). And, the windows should also be the same between stories. Also, as @mostapha said, it can make things out of sync with the rooms in the Revit model.
The new command we have in mind should address all of these limitations.I’m looking forward to working on it once I am back.
The Match and replace rooms command is now available in Model Editor v2. You can use it to match the rooms in several levels with the rooms that you have already cleaned up on a specific level. See here for the documentation:
