Model Editor is now available as a standalone desktop app for easier access

Hello :pollination: community!

We have a special new release of the Revit plugin (v2.210.1) with several improvements to the Model Editor! You can download the new release of the Revit plugin from the same page.

Here are the improvements in the new version.

Model Editor standalone desktop application

The main highlight of this release is the addition of the Model Editor standalone desktop application. Now the Revit plugin installer also installs the Model Editor as a desktop application in addition to the embedded version that comes with Revit.

You can double-click and open the Model Editor just like any other Windows desktop application.

The desktop application needs a valid Pollination Revit license to run but not a valid Autodesk Revit license.

The desktop application is at least useful in three cases:

1. For the users who use Autodesk Flex for Revit

Now you only need a valid Autodesk Revit license when creating the snapshots. The rest of the process can be done in the Model Editor standalone application without opening Revit, which should save you many flex tokens! Sorry, Autodesk!

2. For users who have to work on large Revit models

If you work on large Revit models, which is the case most of the time, you need to wait for Revit to load the model only to click the “Edit & Export Model” button to edit the snapshots. That’s not required anymore. Double-click on the Model Editor application, open the snapshots, and start editing them! This should save you many hours of staring at Revit load menus! Sorry, Autodesk once more!

There is also the case of working together on cleaning up different levels. Once someone in the office exports the snapshots from Revit, everyone can take part in cleaning up the models using the Desktop application.

3. For users who have Revitophobia!

If you work with engineers afraid of opening Revit and dealing with Revit models, here is your chance to help them. Export the snapshots for them and let them do the rest of the work in the desktop application!

If you are a person who has Revitophobia but can take advantage of the Model Editor, find someone if your office to export the snapshots from Revit and you are all set to go!

Improvements to saving and opening snapshots

As part of the process of adding the desktop application, we also improved how you save and load the snapshots. With this release, you pick the folder for saving the snapshots which will allow you to save them to any folder that you would like, and with a human-readable name.

After exporting the snapshots, if you decide to continue the clean-up in the desktop application, you can load all the snapshots from a folder with a single click. Here is a recording that shows the improved workflow.

Other improvements and bug fixes

We also made several improvements to the routine for calculating the slanted roofs and fixed a bug blocking the list of doors and apertures to be loaded in the UI in certain Revit models.

If you haven’t had a chance to try the new workflow you can get started here:

What comes next

Our next upcoming release will be focused on providing a more comprehensive solution for editing slanted roofs.

As always, thank you for using Pollination, and we are looking forward to hearing your feedback!

Have a great rest of the week! :pollination:
