Hello, apologies if this question has been asked previously.
Can revit constructions be transferred to IESVE when exporting as a GEM file?
An additional question would be, are there any difference between using rooms, spaces and areas in terms of export?
Any help would be very much appreciated
Hi @maxhanning, Welcome to the forum!
Good question. If you want to use the GEM file, the answer is no. This is because the GEM file can only include the geometry information.
There are possibilities (see below) but not through the GEM file. What is the use case here? From what I have seen, the constructions in Revit models are usually unreliable for energy modeling. Do you work with Revit models with correct constructions? Or do you create and assign the constructions yourself and would you like to do that in Revit/Pollination?
There can be differences between the 3. For instance, you cannot use the “Full Volume” mode to extract the geometry from an area
but usually you don’t want to do that. Generally speaking, and assuming you are only concerned about geometry and using the “Extruded” method to generate them they are the same.
I should add that we have been working on an alternative workflow to use the IES VE API to generate constructions and program types during the translation. This will take some time as we need the help from the IES team to add some missing API functionalities but the POC project has been very successful. That means in the near future it should be possible to export the constructions from Revit model to IES VE directly using the Pollination Revit plugin. See this video that I originally posted here:
Let me know if you have any other questions.
