Selecting Doors & Windows that have no Family

Hi everyone,

I am trying to convert the existing Revit model to IES VE energy model. I have been going through available tutorials online, and I’m having trouble selecting Doors and Windows due to the fact that the available Revit model does not have Families at all, every instance is Type ‘Generic model’ - walls, doors, windows - everything.

Also, the Pollination - ‘Select Windows/Doors’ panel seems odd, the dropdown menus for Links, Phase and Filter By Level are all empty.

Does anyone have an idea how do I solve this problem? The model has a lot of windows, so to manually create Families and assign them one by one seems like torture…

Thanks

This is actually an IFC file… can that be converted in IES VE? :frowning:

Hi @tijana, :waving_hand: Welcome to the forum!

See here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-mep-forum/archicad-ifc-into-revit-what-has-worked-for-us-so-far/td-p/10021221

You need to make sure the windows in the IFC file are categorized correctly before importing the model to Revit.

You need the correct type to be able to use the Pollination plugin.

You might also be able to change the family category for objects inside Revit. I’m not the right person to comment on the viability of this approach but here is a video tutorial:

Thanks @mostapha, I’ve managed to fix this issue, but new ones keep arising

Do you know why does the plugin not see the Roofs in my model? They are the right category…

And as you can see, both Host model and all Links are checked in selection, and all Phases as well.

Hi @tijana,

I call that making progress! How did you resolve the issue with the windows categories? Am I correct that you’re exporting the IFC from ArchiCAD?

Hmm. I’m not sure. Do you see any errors in the logs? If you could share the model with me, I’ll have a closer look.

I’ve managed to get the Revit models (.rvt) instead of exporting the IFC

Not really. Sure, where can send you the model?

Ha! Didn’t know that is a possibility. That should make everything much simpler.

I sent you a private message.
