Turn Off Inertial Panning in Model Editor

Is there a way to turn off the inertial effect while panning in the Model Editor? I’m using Revit 2024 with Revit plugin v2.209.7.

Hi @mdouglass, Welcome to the forum!

I had to look up “inertial effect” to see what it means in this context! - I don’t know the answer but @antonellodinunzio should be able to tell us.

Why do you want to turn it off? Is it making it hard for you to edit the model? Or is it just annoying? That’s also a valid point! Thanks.

Hey @mostapha, thanks! Really enjoying the tool so far.

Yeah, so if my description wasn’t clear, when I release the middle mouse button while panning, the pan movement still continues based on the mouse speed at the moment of release. The effect is similar to flick scrolling on a touchscreen.

This is jarring in a CAD context because no other software I’m familiar with behaves in this way. Typically, when I release the middle mouse button, all panning stops. I’d really appreciate if there was a toggle setting to just disable this effect.

Hey @mdouglass, thank you for the follow-up.

That’s great to hear! Let me know when/if you hit the trough of disillusionment so we can get you to the plateau of productivity!

Thanks! Yes. I know what are you talking about. The Model Editor is built on top of tldraw. From what I see the option is not exposed in the SDK but I have seen @antonellodinunzio doing some magic before to patch some changes. He will let us know if that would be possible.

Give us some time and we will get back to you! Also, let us know if you have any other feedback. Appreciate it!

Quick update after talking to @antonellodinunzio. This is not currently exposed in tldraw SDK and we can’t change it. We will bring it up with their team and see if that is something that they can possibly do for us.

I lied! @antonellodinunzio found a solution. This behavior should change in the upcoming release of the Revit plugin with the updated model editor.

Phenomenal! Thanks for looking into this! And excellent work @antonellodinunzio!
