Merging Rooms on Different Floors

Inside the Model Editor is it possible to merge rooms that are on separate floors?

The two rooms have been aligned to the same vertices.

Pressing the “Merge Rooms” command says that the two rooms were updated but does not merge.

Hi @smarentette,

Good question! The merge command only merges the room on the same level. For connecting the rooms vertically, you should use the Has floor, and Has ceiling properties. Here is a short video that shows the process.

Here is the sample file that I used.

Let me know if this answers your question.

Thanks @mostapha, that works.

But is it possible to merge the room so it gets translated as one room? Possibly through the script editor?

We don’t currently have that option during the translation. I have brought this up as an option to @chriswmackey, but we have been waiting to find a use case.

For this particular case, and since your rooms have the same floor plate, why don’t you delete the room on the upper floor and adjust the height of the lower floor? Shouldn’t that give you what you need?

If there are windows in the second room, then you should go back to Revit and re-export the room on the lower floor with an adjusted height to capture the windows on the top floor. This won’t be ideal, but it is an option.

Also, until we figure this out in the Model Editor, you can export your model to Rhino and merge these two rooms in Rhino. If I remember correctly, you can merge the rooms vertically in the Rhino plugin.
